About My Number Card （English） ／ マイナンバーカード（個人番号カード）のご案内 （英語）

My Number system is the nickname for the 「Social Security and Tax Number System」,  which provides a unique 12-digit number to all registered residents in Japan.
The number can be used to confirm a person’s identity registered across different agencies, such as social security, tax systems and others.

My Number Card is a card that contains a person’s unique number (my number) and photo ID.

The My Number Card is an IC chip card that shows a person’s name, address, birthdate, gender, and photo on the front; and indicates a person’s My Number and other information on the back. Aside from being used as an identification card, it could also be used on local government services, application for e-Tax digital certificates, and other services.

Uses for My Number Card

• Act as a document which certifies one’s unique number (my number)
• Act as identification for online applications for various administrative procedures
• Act as an official identification card for identity verification
• Used for various private online transactions
• Used for obtaining various certificates at convenience stores

Reminders for Foreign Residents

Reminders for foreign nationals residing in Japan.

• Changes in your name, address, and other registered details must be reported at your local municipality
• Your My Number Card will expire on the same date as the expiration date of your period of stay indicated in your residence card
• After renewing your period of stay (visa), present your new residence card at your local municipality to update your My Number Card
  (※The validity of your My Number Card will not be updated unless you present your new residence card.)
