16. Garbage Disposal
The schedule for garbage collection is different for each residential area. Make sure to check the Household Garbage Collection Calendar. For proper garbage segregation, please refer to the Minokamo City Segregation of Household Garbage. (You can get a copy at the city hall or from Minokamo’s website)
Please write your name, and your neighborhood association’s name (or apartment name) in the garbage bags and throw them in designated disposal areas. Kindly ask your neighbors if you do not know where the designated disposal areas are.
(a) Why are the garbage bags segregated?
Garbage bags are separated into 3 categories – Combustibles, Recyclables, and Non-Combustibles. To preserve natural resources, recyclables and non-recyclables are separated. Garbage is not buried as is. At garbage disposal facilities, garbage is burned or crushed into pieces according to its classification. For this reason, garbage bags are separated according to disposal procedures, before they are collected.
(b) What are Garbage Collection Points?
Household garbage which is disposed of at the collection points is collected and brought to disposal facilities by disposal companies. Not only in Minokamo City, but in almost all areas of Japan, garbage that is not thrown at designated areas or at designated dates and time will not be collected. Scattered garbage that was improperly thrown away may cause inconvenience to the neighborhood. As such, please follow the proper disposal rules.
(c) Can PET plastic bottles be disposed of at Combustible or Non-Combustible garbage collection points?
No, they can’t. PET plastic bottles should be disposed of at PET plastic bottle collection points. If you don’t know where the PET bottle collection points are, please ask at the City Hall.
PET bottles are also collected at [Recycle Station], [Kira Kira Eco House], and [Makino Eco Hiroba].

17. Keeping Pets
1) When keeping dogs, please observe the following:
(1) Register your dog.
Dogs that are 91 days or older must be registered. After completing the registration, a dog license tag will be issued. This tag must always be attached to the dog wherever it goes.
(2) Please have your pet vaccinated against rabies once a year.
In Minokamo, rabies shots are administered once yearly, and all registered dog owners will be notified by post.
If you cannot have your pet vaccinated during the vaccination period, you can have the animal vaccinated at a local veterinary hospital. A vaccination certificate will be issued by the veterinary hospital, which you must then bring to the Environment Division of the City Hall to apply for a rabies vaccination tag.
(3) Do not let your dog loose outside your house or property.
(4) Please clean up your after your dog.
Dog-related complaints are increasing. Owners must clean up after their dog when out for a walk.
2) If you can no longer keep your pet, you should find it a new owner. If you cannot find one, please consult with the Gifu Prefecture Kamo Health Office (Tel:0574-25-3111).
3) If your pet dies, you can have it cremated at Kamoseien<外部リンク> (Japanese only). Please contact Kamoseien directly before bringing your pet to the facility.
